Henry Boote was born in Liverpool, England. In 1889 he emigrated to Australia and worked in Brisbane for 5 years as a jobbing compositor. During this period he contributed to the Queensland Worker. In 1894, Boote went to Bundaberg to edit the Bundaberg Guardian, a Labor paper. In 1897 he was invited by Andrew Fisher to start Gympie Truth.
